If you’re looking for somewhere to go over the coming months to get in on the World Cup action, new Bar 52 could be just the place.
I popped in Friday afternoon just before the official opening to the general public, to check it out. However, not particularly being a fan of sports, I took along my football and pool loving hubby to find out what he thought.
Situated in South Parade, Whitley Bay, Bar 52 is a bar dedicated to sports. Owners and developers of adjacent Hotel 52 and nearby Loca, recognised a gap in the market, and kitted out Bar 52 with a quality pool table, darts boards, comfortable and unique surroundings and a big screen showing all the latest sporting events.
Bar 52 also has a selection of reasonably priced craft beers, ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks, and something which will definitely see me visiting again, cocktails.
After taking a look around and finding out a little about the bar and the idea behind it, we were then offered a selection of bar snacks off the menu to sample. We tried the Jamaican Jerk ribs and the Scotch Bonnet and Mango and BBQ & Apricot wings, and Tuna Mayo, Sundried Tomato and Feta with Basil Pesto, and Roast Chicken and Tomato Tepenade paninis, and were impressed with them all.
I absolutely love the quirky decor of the bar, giving it almost an American feel as the sports bar theme runs throughout the whole bar. Such attention has been paid to detail from the pictures on the walls, to the vintage Boxing print wallpaper, the newspaper cut outs which make up the surface of the tables, the baseball bat table legs to the menus printed on ping-pong bats.
If you’re familiar with nearby Loca Bar & Kitchen, then you’ll have an idea of how vibrant the decor and how friendly the staff will be (and the strength of the cocktails).
I’m sure Bar 52 is a bar I will call in to whilst on a night out with friends, and it’s somewhere my husband could easily spend his whole night and has already, been back since.
I have never came across a bar even similar and I have a feeling it will prove really popular, especially over the summer World Cup fever months. And both me and my hubby agree it’s a fantastic addition to Whitley Bay
Best of luck Bar 52, and thank you for inviting us along to take a look.
