Spice Girls recently kicked off their Spice World UK and Ireland tour. To celebrate the reunion of the iconic girl band, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger teamed up with Walkers Crisps once again. Four Vip tickets, an exclusive meet and greet plus 5 star accommodation and travel. And all you had to was prove YOU are The Spice Girls Best Ever fan.
Unfortunately for winner Dev who saw the girls rock up at his front door with the tickets, Walkers Crisps have made their Best Ever Cheese and Onion crisps flavour even harder to share.
And in a shock turn of events, you can watch the moment the Superfan chose his love for Walkers Crisps over the Spice Girls, allowing his golden ticket to slip through his fingers.
However, Devs’ blunder meant the tickets were back up for grabs, with the REAL Best Ever Fan to be announced on 5th June.
The Spice Girls reuniting for the Summer, have gave fans major 90s nostalgia, and got me reminiscing over…
…What we were wearing
Being a teen, for me, it was all about the denim. Double denim, blue denim, white denim, black denim, pretty much always teamed with an oversized Band T-shirt. Don’t get me wrong though, I never looked cool. I wasn’t rocking the grunge look, just the ‘I have no idea about fashion sense and I am still finding myself’ look.
Then as I progressed trough the 90s I toyed with the Baby Doll dress, cargo pants, crop tops, bomber jackets and of course neon. Although not all together.
Basically, it was all about the lingerie, B*Witched, Raver or Army vibes
…What we were slapping on our faces
I’d pile on a good layer of foundation. Shades weren’t as varied at that time (or maybe their just wasn’t much selection in my local chemist) but light orange did just fine and complimented my ruined Sun In blonde hair.
Blending wasn’t a thing back then and I wasn’t at all phased by lines around my neck. I plucked my eyebrows until they were as likened to Pamela Andersons’ as they could possibly be. Smeared on frosted eye shadow teamed with Heather Shimmer Lipstick.
I always completed the look with a simple hairstyle, spiced up with a zig-zag parting and a butterfly grip or 20. The more of these mini plastic accessories, the better.
…What we were watching
If you’ve never uttered the words ‘Can we start the fans, please’ did the 90s ever even happen? Thursday nights were all about staying up late for The Crystal Maze.
And Fridays were all about watching ‘The Word’s Hopefulls do something absolutely ridiculous to get on tv. Later replace by ‘The Girly Show’ taking that post-pub time slot.
Roseanne, Fresh Prince of Bell Air, Beverly Hills 90210, Baywatch, Friends, and waking up to The Big Breakfast. The 21st century may have gave us so many more channels and subscription services, but nothing beats 90s tv for me.
…What we were listing to
90s music offered us a mix of angst, energy, colour and soul. From Britpop, to Europop, to Rap, to Grunge and not forgetting the introduction of Girl Power.
And nothing had us putting down our bottles of Hooch and hitting the dance floor like the echo of ‘Dee Dee Na Na Na. 90s classics are still making the party playlists today, getting down to Cotton Eyed Joe, 5,6,7,8 and The Macarena.
And music wasn’t as accessible is it is today, and meant a trip to Woolworths to buy cassettes or cds.
What Nostalgia does the 90s bring back for you?
