We’ve been quite lucky so far this summer, with quite a few sunny days and even a heatwave. And what better way to spend a hot day, than on the beach. We are blessed with a beautiful coastline up here in the North East. And thanks to local Charity Beach Access North East, Whitley Bay, Newbiggin-by-the Sea and Blyth beach, are now accessible for all.

Blyth Beach
Local Charity Beach Access North East was established in 2017, and is ran entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers. The organisation loans out all terrain equipment completely free of charge. Enabling wheelchair access onto the golden sand, to the shore. Or enjoy a trip along Whitley Bays Award winning Blue Flag beach, to the lighthouse.
The equipment isn’t limited to just the summer months, but available throughout the year. Meaning wheelchair users can take part in activities with friends and other families such as Boxing Day and New Year dips.
Support for Beach Access North East
Beach Access has had support from National Lottery, as well as local companies. And the organisation have lent equipment to respite centres, and schools, as well as individuals. Making the dream of going to the beach a reality for some who haven’t been for years, or never been before.

Enjoying the waves at Blyth Beach
Beach Access North East hopes to continue to expand their service, with Hartlepool next on the map. And aim to gain further interest, to make even more of the wonderful North East coastline, accessible for all.
Raising Awareness
To spread the word of BANE and their invaluable service, a World Record attempt will be taking place at 11.30am on 25th September, 2019. The world record for the longest line of wheelchairs currently stands at 351. BANE aim to beat that. And what better place to do it than in front of the newly renovated surroundings of the iconic Spanish City.
So if you’re up for being part of a World Record, then register your interest with a message to Caroline Cornfield via the event Facebook Page
And don’t worry about parking, as shuttle cars will be running between the Briardene Car park and event location.
How can I help?
