Over the weeks as the weather has gradually got colder and nights darker, I’ve found myself craving comfort food. Warm, homely dishes, often slow cooked and packed full of veg. One of my favourite winter dishes is Shepherd’s Pie. As a family we don’t eat a lot of red meat. We spend the summer months cooking chicken and fish. However, we do enjoy mince, particularly with dumplings or a load of creamy mash. Usually adding any herbs and spices separately. Which can prove quite costly and timely. So this time I decided to try a Schwatz Shepherds Pie Recipe Mix.

Ingredients and Method
I usually add a bay leaf, Thyme, Ground Pepper, Tomato puree and Worcestershire sauce. As Schwartz Shepherd’s Pie recipe mix is packed full of the perfect combination for this winter dish, I kept it simple and followed the recipe on the packet. By doing so, not only did this save time without adding the extras, but also money.
The dish fed a family of 5, two of us having seconds. And all I needed was 500g 5% Fat Lean Beef Mince. Although Shepherd’s Pie is traditionally made of Lamb, Lamb isn’t something we tend to eat unless making kebabs in the summer months. The seasoning compliments the dish the same using either.
1 Large Carrot finely chopped
1 Onion finely chopped
2 Sticks of celery, chopped
A handful of frozen peas
Schwartz Shepherd’s Pie Recipe Mix
200 mls (7fl oz) Cold Water
White Potatoes
2 tsp butter
Splash of milk
Gradted cheedar Cheese (optional)
Following the simple directions on the back of the packet browning the mince, onions, celery and carrot for 5 minutes until golden brown and softened. Then draining the excess liquid before mixing the sachet with the water then adding to the pan with the peas and bringing to the boil.
I’d also boiled a pan of white potatoes to which I added milk and butter to make creamy mash. Then transferred the mince to an oven proof dish, topped with the mash, sprinkled on some grated cheese and put in the oven 200°C, 400°F, Gas Mark 6 for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

I served with steamed seasonal veg, and yorkshire puddings and it went down an absolute treat.

You can purchase the Schwartz Shepherd’s Pie seasoning mix here or from your local Tesco store.
