A week on from our Psycho Path experience and we headed back to Lintz Hall Farm on Sunday for the lauch of Family Fright Fest. The Burnopfield Fear Ground has been tamed down bringing a Halloween event for all the family.
Like any spooktacular Halloween event, fancy dress is highly encouraged for both children and parents. Although nothing too scary which may upset the little ones.
The event kicked off at 11.00 and we arrived around 11.30. Parked in the on site car park and made our way once again to Anarchy Arcade. If you’ve read my Pscyho Path blog you can find out about what to expect to find in Anarchy Arcade. The set up is exactly the same for Family Fright Fest, only without the menacing horror characters wandering around.
We made our way outside to the Fear Ground with rides for children of all ages. A Halloween Crafts and Spooky Tales Tipi. A Pumpkin Patch so you can to pick their own pumpkin then carve in the tent. And a beautifully decorated giant Wizard School Yurt. With hanging lights and bird skeltons in cages, candle sticks, and ingredients to concoct a magic potion placed on the wooden tables.
Hogwarts Students then gave instructions to make a potion. And the children were then presented wtih School of Witchcraft and Wizardry certificates. This is at no extra cost but included in the ticket price. The only additional cash needed for activities at Family Fright Fest is for the pumpkin maze (£5 per pumpkin) the fairground rides. An unlimited rides wrist band can be purchased from inside Anarchy Arcade for only £6.
We then head back inside for food. There’s a wide variety of streets food to chose from. Burgers, wraps, dirty fries, parmos. The girls decided on Pizza. Tokens need to be purchased from the main bar to exchange for food and drinks. But unlike other events I’ve been to with a token system, there wasn’t a minimum spend. We just worked out the cost of what we wanted and bought tokens to that value. With surprisingly, no queue for tokens so this was done quick and easily. And the woodfired pizzas from The Pizza Van were delicious. Prices ranging from £5 – £8 per pizza which is standard street food prices.
We then decided it was time to brave Psycho Paths new attraction this year, iScream. iScream is a killer clown filled maze by night, and a more child friendly version for Fright Fest. After queing for only around 10 minutes (very impressed how quickly queues have gone down at both events) we made our way into the maze. There were no characters inside iScream. We just needed to find our way around. Which wasn’t as easy as we’d expected.
With circus music ringing out, we made our way through the darkness, through a candy floss smelling soft pink mist. Through blackened walls of neon painted clowns. We wobbled over a bouncy rubber floor which felt like we were sinking, then finally found our way out through a sweet filled ice cream van.
It took us about 15 minutes to make it out of iScream. Going through the Candy Floss mist where you can hardly see your hand infront of your face twice, I became quite frustrated. I’m so annoyed at myself for giving iScream a miss last week now. It would’ve been brilliant finding our way through with the scares from the creepy characters inside. Hopefully iScream will return next year.
We then headed over to the entertainment area, just in time to watch the aerial artist, and the girls were mesmerised.
The Greatest Showman cast then once again took to the stage and had both children and parents up dancing to The Time Warp, Macarana, and other popular party songs. Then favourite tracks from The Greatest Showman. First Second and third prizes, including Metro Arena Concert Tickets were then awarded to the children for best Halloween costumes. And the day wrapped up with a Parade of Family Fright Fest Characters from the day making their way to the exit giving children plenty of photo opportunities as they left.
We only expected to spend a couple of hours at Fright Fest. But we left as the event ended at 4.30 so made a whole day it. Family Fright Fest is easily the best Family Festival we have been to. Being a fan of all things Halloween, I know I enjoyed it just as much as the girls.
Family Fright Fest is running again this weekened (26th and 27th) and October 31st, and I’d say it’s the perfect way to start half term or even better, Halloween.
